This month, we are celebrating therapist Kelly Renfro for her hard work and dedication to her patients.
Kelly is a Lawrence native and a die hard Jayhawk fan. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina, she went on to attend Kansas University for her doctorate in physical therapy. While obtaining her bachelor’s, she decided to pursue physical therapy.
“The program I was in gave me the opportunity to work with children who had underdeveloped motor skills and adults that wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle,” she says. “After those experiences, I was able to do observation hours at a few physical therapy clinics, and realized this career path was a good fit for me.”
Kelly says that her favorite part of being a therapist is getting to work with a variety of patients throughout the day and helping them reach their goals.
“I like that we are able to spend more time with our patients than most healthcare providers and are able to learn more about the person than what they were referred to us for,” she says.
To serve her patients further, Kelly is considering several specialties including manual therapy and occupational manual therapy.
Outside of physical therapy, Kelly enjoys spending time outdoors and running. She also has a 10-year-old rat terrier mix and a 16-year-old cat.
